TWEED, Ont. - Ontario Provincial Police confirmed Monday morning they have arrested a male suspect in the disappearance and death of Jessica Lloyd and investigators spent the morning combing through the Tweed home of a CFB Trenton base commander.
A statement from OPP and Belleville police issued Monday morning says a joint investigation has led police to investigate "other incidents in (the) area ...resulting in additional criminal charges."
Police have called a press conference - to include deputy OPP commissioner Vince Hawkes and Belleville Chief Cory McMullan - for 1 p.m. Monday in Belleville.
Police haven't released information about the suspect.
Investigators were at the home of Russ Williams Monday morning.
Sources told QMI Agency that Lloyd's remains were found nearby. Tweed is located north of Lloyd's hometown of Belleville.
Williams has been base commander at CFB Trenton since July, 2009, and previously flew VIP Challenger aircraft for such dignitaries as Canadian prime ministers and royalty.
Lloyd, 27, had been missing since Jan. 29. after she failed to show up for her job with Tri-Board Student Transportation Services in Napanee.
The last time anyone heard from Lloyd was the night before when she texted a friend.
Last week, friends of Lloyd started distributing vehicle decals with photos of her, as well as her description and contact information for police.
The Ontario Provincial Police had been investigating whether Lloyd's disappearance might be connected to other crimes against women in the province.
In a press release issued Wednesday, Belleville police warned "there is a safety concern for women living alone” in the community, located west of Kingston, and urged them to take “extra precautions such as changing personal routines, securing premises and being in the company of others."
