Police didn't warn women enough about possible predator: friend of slain woman

(CP) – February 9th, 2010

BELLEVILLE, Ont. — A friend of a slain eastern Ontario woman says she's angry police didn't provide better warnings to women, now that one man has been charged in two killings and two sex assaults.

Col. Russell Williams, 46, of Tweed, Ont., the base commander at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, was arrested Sunday in Ottawa.

He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Jessica Lloyd, 27, of Belleville and Marie Comeau, a 38-year-old corporal with CFB Trenton's 437 squadron.

Terra Dafoe, a friend of Lloyd, says she feels police didn't do enough to warn women of a possible predator on the loose after two sex assaults in November.

She says she feels police failed women in the area by not providing the warning until after Lloyd disappeared 11 days ago.

At a news conference police said they issued an advisory last week about safety concerns for females living alone.
